Ruth Flowers

Artist Bio

Ruth Flowers is an emerging multidisciplinary artist based in Peterlee. Exploring the intersection of traditional craft and new technology, her work, rooted in local narratives and folklore, seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and celebrate community heritage. Through recent projects like 'Rivers Within', currently displayed at Palace Green Library in Durham, and acting lead artist and co-producer for 'Nana's House' in Peterlee, i weave together diverse media to create immersive experiences and artworks that challenge perceptions and foster intergenerational connections. This year I have also secured a digital test commission with No More Nowt, pushing boundaries with my practice by exploring digital innovation with tactile craftsmanship to reimagine cultural storytelling in the Northeast. I am also a newly appointed member of Durham Creative Community Fellowship with Bowes Museum, Derby Museums and National Art Strategies promoting creativity, collaboration and equity.

Selected Work

Name: Can o’Worms

Can o’ Worms is a poignant exploration of family dynamics and unspoken truths. Six stoneware cans, dated to family members’ births, evoke generational ties. One erupts with wool worms—symbolising buried emotions and difficult conversations. The work reflects on intergenerational trauma, using everyday objects to express the extraordinary within family relationships.
